Shooting has begun on Yorgos Lanthimos’ THE KILLING OF THE SACRED DEER
Filming began in Cincinnati on Monday morning. The psychological drama is Yorgos’ second English language feature and follows Cannes Jury Prize winning THE LOBSTER, released earlier this year. Colin Farrell will star again alongside Nicole Kidman. Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Barry Keoghan (Love/Hate), Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland), Bill Camp (12 Years A Slave) and Sunny Suljic (The Unspoken) are also amongst the cast.
Inspired by a Euripides tragedy, THE KILLING OF THE SACRED DEER centres on Steven (Farrell), a charismatic surgeon forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart when the behaviour of a teenager (Keoghan) he has taken under his wing turns sinister.
The film was written by Yorgos and his regular collaborator Efthimis Filippou. Lanthimos is producing along with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe’s Element Pictures (Room). Film4, the Irish Film Board and New Sparta Films are backers. A24 are the US distributor and HanWay Films have worldwide sales.
