Rachel Mathews is a UK-born, Berlin-based screenwriter who has directed several award-winning short films and has written radio plays for BBC Radio 4. Her feature script Into the Dark Woods won the Wellcome Trust’s ‘Inspired by Science’ Award. After traveling regularly to Yangon in Myanmar (Burma) since 2007, in 2018 she was showrunner on Series 2 of The Sun, the Moon & The Truth (10 x 30 min), a Myanmar-set legal drama series for MRTV 4. In 2019 she created a mini-series (6 x 10 min) about the Myanmar police force for the EU. She is currently developing Emily Bronte is My Bestie (10 x 30 min), a teen drama series with Anyway Productions in London, Leben (8 x 45 min), co-created with Andreas Fuhrmann and Torsten Voges, for Chosen Family Media and Viktoria Frankenstein with Andreas Fuhrmann for Flare Film, both in Berlin. She is also a script consultant including for the EU Media agency, Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland, Vidhi Pictures in Pakistan, and the Myanmar Script Fund.
