Although from a working-class British background, much of Emily’s career has been internationally-focused, following the completion of the Serial Eyes European Showrunner Programme in Berlin. Now Margate-based, Emily has since worked as a staff writer on the historical drama Black Gold (ARD), family drama Freddi and Lou (HBO Europe/TNT) and head-written projects previously in development with NETFLIX Germany and AUDIBLE Germany.
Writing ambitious, character-led drama across crime, historical and family/relationship stories: Emily explores the gap between stories we tell ourselves and the truths we’d rather avoid, combining commercial storytelling with emotional and socio-political depth.
Prior to her maternity leave, Emily’s short project Echo Chamber was shortlisted for the BFI Outline Scheme in 2025 and is now being developed as a proof-of-concept film. Emily also delighted in having her historical TV film, LOLA chosen as one of six projects for the 2024 NETFLIX Incubator scheme. Furthermore, Emily developed two forbidden love stories as a medical precinct drama and a legal thriller for NEUE SUPER, as well as writing a romance drama for CONSTANTIN TV.
Back in 2016, Emily was inspired to start writing whilst working as Writer’s Assistant to Jez Butterworth on Britannia, S1. In 2020, after finishing the Serial Eyes European Showrunner Programme, two years as a Development Executive for BAVARIA FICTION and twelve years of industry experience overall – Emily began writing full-time. By 2021, Emily was commissioned to co-write write a YA romance TV Film, Silver Moonlight for NETFLIX. Later, Emily penned a three-part AUDIBLE spin-off series for AMAZON US action-thriller, Citadel.
Alongside her writing, Emily freelances as a Development Producer at FREE TURN ENTERTAINMENT, helping to build their international television slate. With her long-term ambition to become a Showrunner, she takes pleasure in combining her editorial, development and writing experiences to strengthen her show-running skillset.
