Fyzal Boulifa

Fyzal Boulifa is a British filmmaker of Moroccan descent. 

His first feature film, LYNN + LUCY, released in 2020, won a collection of prizes at several international festivals. Fyzal was also nominated for a Critics’ Circle Film Award in 2021 for his directorial work on the feature.

Fyzal is the writer and director of several short films including BURN MY BODY, WHORE, winner of Best UK Short at London East End Film Festival and Grand Prix du Jury at Angers Premiers Plans 2010, and BAFTA-nominated THE CURSE, winner of Illy Prize at Cannes Film Festival 2012. His latest short film RATE ME was winner of the Cannes Illy Prize 2015. Boulifa was also named one of Screen’s Stars of Tomorrow.

Fyzal's most recent feature, THE DAMNED DON'T CRY ( Les Damnés ne Pleurent Pas) released in 2022. The drama debuted to critical acclaim leading to a plethora of award wins and nominations. Winning the Critics FEDEORA Jury Award at the 2023 FEST International Film Festival alongside a win for actress Aicha Tebbabe as Best Actress while also being nominated for Merlinka Queer Best Film. Fyzal was also recognised at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival as a special mention for Best Emerging Filmmaker. The picture also won best music at Festival International du Film Indépendant de Bordeaux alongside a nomination for best film. Additionally, earning nominations at the London, Taipei, Venice, Stockholm, Palm Springs International and Black Movie Film film festivals for Best Film.
