Kate Reid is a writer and performer. She trained as an actor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and graduated in 2018. She is Co-Artistic Director of the theatrical production company Plain Heroines and took her first play, THREE DAYS’ TIME, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016 whilst still a student. After graduation, her second play, A GIRL, STANDING, went on at Theatre503, followed by REFRACT at King’s Head Theatre and then her one-woman show, JANUARY, at White Bear Theatre. She has also had shorter pieces performed at Southwark Playhouse, The Pleasance, and Arcola Theatre with the Miniaturists.
In 2019, her script ENTROPY was selected for Park Theatre’s Script Accelerator and was then shortlisted for the Royal Court Theatre’s Lynne Gagliano Award. ENTROPY went on to be shortlisted for the Finborough Theatre Radius Award, the Phil Fox Award, Sphinx30, and was one of the Verity Bargate Award’s Top 100 Scripts.
In 2020, she won Flux Theatre’s Emerge 5 and so has recently been made a Flux Theatre Associate Writer. Her most recent play, THE 4TH COUNTRY received five-star reviews at VAULT Festival 2020 and was a finalist for the Charlie Hartill Award. She is currently developing the script for its Off-West End transfer, which has been delayed until 2021 due to Covid-19. Most recently she was commissioned to write a short piece by The Space as part of their Locked Down, Looking Up program.
She first started writing for screen in 2019 when her short film, TWO STEPS FORWARD, was nominated for Best Screenplay at Little Wing Film Festival. She met her screenwriting partner, Zak Ghazi-Torbati, whilst they were both studying at Cambridge University. They are currently writing for the BBC 1 Wales sketch show AGE OF OUTRAGE and are working on numerous projects for television.
