Matt is a playwright, director, and producer from the North East of Scotland, currently based in Glasgow. He loves creating exciting and thought-provoking new work as an individual, and through his production company, Kangaroo Court Productions.
Matt’s debut play Shotgunned premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024, receiving five-star reviews from several outlets, including The Stage, and winning the Bright Spark Award. The play is a time-hopping, two-hander following Roz and Dylan, a young couple who, despite best intentions, are unable to remain in each others lives once tragedy strikes. Shotgunned transferred to Riverside Studios in London for a three-week run in 2025, and returned to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2026 as part of the Made in Scotland showcase where it was published by Nick Hern Books.
Matt’s second play Death of an Influencer was produced as part of A Play, A Pie, and A Pint’s Autumn 2025 Season. The show starred beloved Scottish actors George Drennan and Andrew Agnew, telling the story of an aging unsuccessful actor whose son has become a viral TikTok mega star. Death of an Influencer explores a rapidly-shifting industry, and the difficulty that comes with being proud of those around you, especially when you feel they don’t deserve it. It was praised by critics and audiences alike, described as a “beautifully constructed, cautionary tale for the modern age” and sold out nearly the entirety of its two week run.
Excerpts of Matt’s work have been selected and performed at Way Word Festival in Aberdeen and Dundee’s Rep Stripped festival. Since 2025, he has worked closely with the Purple Poncho Players, a group of artists with disabilities supported by the Glasgow Disability Alliance, writing sketches and helping the actors develop new material ahead of their live performances.
Matt is drawn to contemporary stories with a deep-rooted emotional core, exploring complex characters and the difficulties in navigating the world today.
