Mikey Please

Mikey Please is a Bristol-based BAFTA-winning and OSCAR-nominated writer, director, animator, and illustrator.

Mikey's short film THE EAGLEMAN STAG won the BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film and was nominated for multiple awards including the Grand Jury Award for Best Animated Short at SXSW Festival and the Short Filmmaking Award at Sundance Festival. Mikey (together with Dan Ojari) is the creator, writer and director of ROBIN ROBIN which was produced with Aardman Animations for Netflix and stars Gillian Anderson, Richard E. Grant, Adeel Akhtar. The film was nominated for an Academy Award 2022 for Best Animated Short Film. Most recently Mikey (again, together with Dan Ojari) wrote and directed the 10th Anniversary Tribute for OVER THE GARDEN WALL with Aardman starring Elijah Wood and Melanie Lynskey.

As an author, Mikey debut picture book THE CAFÉ AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS was published in 2024 by HarperCollins to critical acclaim.  It was the winner of The Waterstones Children's Book of the Year Award, and was The Times Children’s Book of the Week and included in Amazon's Top 15 Children’s Books of the Year and Top 100 Books of the Year. His prequel picture book THE CAVE DOWNWIND OF THE CAFE was published late 2025. The series is currently under option with a major US studio. His debut fiction novel THE EXPANDED EARTH, the first in a trilogy, was published in 2024 to critical acclaim, it was an instance Times Bestseller.
