Sue Townsend was one of Britain’s best writers and humorists whose work encompassed books, plays and screenplays. Her best known character was Adrian Mole and until her death in April 2014, she was working with Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary whose adaptation of MOLE THE MUSICAL. This premiered at the Curve theatre in Leicester in 2015, making its London debut at The Menier Chocolate Factory in 2017 before opening at the Ambassadors in the West End in 2019.
Her most recent book, THE WOMAN WHO WENT TO BED FOR A YEAR, is being developed by the BBC.
Stephen Mangan, who played Adrian Mole in Sue’s adaptation of the CAPPUCCINO YEARS, stated that “she was one of the funniest, warmest and wisest people I have ever met”.
