Mikey Please will publish two new picture books and two middle-grade novels with Harper Collins, the Bookseller has announced. The first picture book is slated to publish in Autumn next year, followed by the two novels which are set for 2027.

Both novels, as well as the first of two picture books, will take place in the same world as Mikey's best-selling debut, THE CAFE AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS, which was awarded Illustrated Book of the Year and winner of Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2025. 

THE CAVE DOWNWIND OF THE CAFE, sequel to THE CAFE AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS, is set to publish this September. 

Speaking to The Bookseller, Please said: “The response to The Café at The Edge of the Woods has shattered all my expectations. To see these characters embraced so wholeheartedly has softened even these iron-clad eyes to the point of tears on more than one occasion. There’s something in Rene and Glumfoot’s dynamic – the spark of their contrasts, the warmth of their camaraderie – that makes them a great joy to write.

Mikey is a BAFTA award-winning and Oscar nominated animation director and writer based in Bristol. He is represented at Sayle Screen by Kelly Knatchbull.
